design (painted blocks)*

ArtRage 2 Pro, iMaginator, and Create

In this project I created one paint sample in ArtRage 2 Pro that I’m able to reuse numerous times in iMaginator.

In ArtRage 2 Pro I filled a 1024x768 canvas with   red paint smears. I chose red simply by chance. I neutral gray would probably be best.

After I had finished applying the paint, I exported the image as a PNG file. I then dragged this file onto an iMaginator window.

Art Rage 2 Pro has it’s own interface. It reminds me of Poser or the old Meta Creations Applications. I would prefer a standard “Mac” UI, but it’s still a great program.

With the paint image in iMaginator, there are numerous ways to adjust the color. I used the “Hue Adjustment” Effect, since I didn’t want to alter the shadows on the paint.

Then I dragged a mask file onto the iMaginator. By holding down the Option key as I dragged on the mask image, the mask image is added to the existing image rather than replacing it.

I then adjusted the Hue, dragged a mask to part of the image, then use the crop tool to select around the inner edge of the mask. I then dragged this selection off from the image well as a JPEG to a Create document.

For the circle, I cropped it out as a square in iMaginator. I then dragged it to another iMaginator window and used the “Mask by Color Component” Effect to remove most of the white. Since it was going onto a white background, the small amounts of white weren’t a big matter. I could have also used a circle mask in Create.

This is a very simple example, but it gives you some ideas. You can download the files for this project here.
