iPhoto, iMaginator, Create, and iWeb

This was a fun one to work on. My son, JJ, created this mechanical man with his Bionicle parts. I think these things are awesome - remember it’s not kids that design these toys! What a great job to have!

Anyway, we set him up on our kitchen table with a white bedsheet behind him and took some digital photos with a little Kodak EasyShare camera. We shot some with flash and some without. We downloaded them to iPhoto. There we did some minor adjustments.

Then dragged the image from iPhoto to iMaginator. Here I applied -
Exposure Adjust
Gamma Adjust
Gloom
Spotlight
I also cropped the image with the crop tool.

I then dragged a PNG file to a Create document and then to iWeb. In iWeb, I again adjusted the saturation, sharpness, and gamma to produce the above image. The extreme sharpness and gamma is largely responsible for the final look.

I could have done those same adjustments in iMaginator or iPhoto. The main lesson, is that one can re-use the same adjustments over and over to multiply or amplify an effect. Each time the light areas became whiter, the dark edges were heightened, and the colors became more lucid for an almost drawn look.
